Deoghar district is one of the most important religious and tourist destinations of India. The honest efforts of Deoghar Police in upholding the rule of law, making law and order arrangements for the world famous
Shravani Mela, overwhelming response to the Community Policing efforts and dedication in curbing crime, trapping criminals and handling law and order problems, has given us a special status in the hearts and minds of the people of Deoghar.
Deoghar has made a place for itself on the Indian tourism map and in this the contribution of good policing can't be under-estimated by anybody. Baidyanath Dham is the world famous shrine of Lord Shiva. It is one of the twelve Jyotirlingas.. In the month of Shrawani around 35 Lakhs devotees offered gangajal during Shrawani Mela 2008.There are some other places of interest in and around Deoghar, viz. Basukinath, Satsanga Ashram, Rikhia Ashram, Navlakha Temple, Tirkut and Masanjor.
Deoghar district has border with Jamui and Banka Districts of Bihar on the one side and Giridih, Dumka and Jamtara districts of Jharkhand on the other. Most of the surrounding districts are badly infested with naxal activities in one stage or the other. Thus, geographical location of Deoghar makes it vulnerable to the spread of Naxal activities. Police is monitoring the movement of naxals in the district continuously with close cooperation of the neighbouring districts and also by periodic meetings with the border districts of the Bihar state. Police has succeeded in preventing naxal incidents in the district and not even a single incident is reported for the past so many years.
Besides this, land related issues are the major cause of concern for Deoghar. District is covered under Santhal Pragana Tenancy Act. There are many restrictions on the sale of Land. There is saleable and non- saleable land in Deoghar. Land mafias try to operate and grab the vacant lands in the district. To check these land sharks,we have been working very closely with other wings of the administration |

Migration of lakhs of people every day, thousands of vehicles coming from
various routes, toll tax collection at entry points, arranging for vehicular parking, traffic movements, law and order arrangements at the temple, managing the long queues of devotees for darshan, controlling crime and ensuring the safety and security of the devotees are the few important issues to be dealt with by Deoghar Police. All these issues are tackled efficiently by the police with co-operation of people. Cases related to heinous offences have been selected for fast-track trial. There has been a sharp decline in the number of this type of offences registered over the last few years due to the persistent efforts of police which reflects upon the better, secure environment in the district. Deoghar police is trying to reduce the public-police gap through community policing initiatives. Police is committed to the primary task of reaching out to all sections of the society and has been promoting many events to bring out young talents. "A healthy police public relationship on a continuing day to day basis is vital to secure the desired measure of public involvement and co-operation in police work to make it meaningful and acceptable to the society". This makes it imperative for the police to take the public with them in their activities. Without this the police action tends to be viewed arbitrary and authoritarian. Hence we request you all people to work with police in close co-operation to build a peaceful society in this holy district. |

Jharkhand and Bihar are facing the menace of Naxalism. Deoghar district has border with Jamui and Banka Districts of Bihar on the one side and Giridih, Dumka and Jamtara districts of Jharkhand on the other. All the surrounding districts are badly infested with naxal activities in one stage or the other. Thus, geographical location of Deoghar make it vulnerable to the Naxal activity spread. Besides, Land related issues are the major cause of concern for Deoghar.
From naxal point of view, Deoghar district is very sensitive. One naxal case reported so far in this district was way back in the year 2001 under Madhupur P.S case no.-97/01, dt-08.06.2001, naxals attacked police picket at village Kushmaha and looted arms and ammunition by killing and injuring policemen.
People of a particular place are the major force in curbing such extremist movements. Deoghar Police is trying to reduce the public police gap through Community Policing initiatives.
