Police is the vitally indiscernible face of the government. The general security scenario has a direct bearing on the prosperity of the society. A handful of anti-social elements can create havoc and multitude of problems for the society in general and victims in particular. Hence all of us need to be alert and work collectively to beat the evil and the nefarious designs of those who are the enemies of society, peace and development. Geographically, Garhwa is surrounded by Palamu in the east, Sonbhadra (Uttar Pradesh) in the west, Rohtas (Bihar) in the north and Sarguja (Chattisgarh) district in the south. Sharing its border with three states it also shares the common naxal menace infesting these areas. Being an undulating hilly terrain and housing the impenetrable forests it provides thriving conditions for the reticent activities and has thus made the district a hotbed of naxalism. The hideouts in the district and easy inter-state movement have been primarily responsible for naxal violence. This has led to the district's being categorized as 'A' class among extremist affected districts. Kidnapping for ransom, killing for rangdari tax, dacoity etc. are other criminal activities which have come into the notice in the district. However, in the recent past, organized crimes like kidnapping for ransom, killing for rangdari, bank dacoities, highway robberies etc. have been greatly reduced in the district as on outcome of effective policing. The most wanted criminals have either been brought before the law or have left the district. However, Garhwa Police is determined to bring these criminals taking shelter outside the district before the law, in co-operation with the concerned district police. On the naxal front, the past one year has been marked by spectacular successes for the Garhwa Police. In Makhatu on 1st April, 2008 eight naxalites were killed in gun-battle which is one of the most significant achievements of Jharkhand Police. Besides in February, 2008, two naxalites including Sub-Zonal Commander Pramandal got killed. Also many top-level commanders have been arrested in the past one year. Many naxalites have left the district and taken shelter in other areas due to alert policing. However, our aim doesn't stop there and we are pursuing them even outside the district in co-operation with the concerned police. Consequently, naxalites are being effectively checked in Garhwa and the results are in front of all to see and feel. There has been sharp increase in the number of cases registered in the most severely affected Police Stations, which reflects the renewed public trust in police functioning. Moreover, through our efforts, we are educating the masses even in the remotest villages about the evil designs of naxalites. We are happy to receive the co-operation of the public in fighting the naxal pest. Garhwa Police has been working in close co-operation with the neighboring district Police and the neighboring states. Periodical meetings with the neighboring district police chiefs have helped greatly in increasing the inter-state cooperation. Also great emphasis has been laid on achieving conviction. Cases related to heinous offences and naxal-violence have been selected for Fast-track trial. Conviction in these cases has created a favourable environment for law-abiding citizens and the efforts of the Naxalites foiled. Garhwa Police is committed to the primary task of reaching out to all sections of the society and helping the needy ones through community policing. In sync with , Garhwa Police has been promoting Sports events and like, at various places to bring out and nurture the hidden talent amongst the youngsters.
