It's a truism to say that the police force by safeguarding the peace plays a key role as builders of the nation. None other than Mahatma Gandhi, the apostle of nonviolence had conjured up a police force which would be consistent with our requirement to maintain the law and order. We need a police service that is more gender sensitive, more humane and more respectful of the rights of citizens. Keeping all these in view, Gumla Police is making an effort to be a police force which is the need of the hour. Gumla as a district is prone to widevariety of crimes, murder being much more prevalent. This tendency is partly a result of drinking habits of villagers where most murders take place on flimsy reasons especially on days of village Haats.Gumla police is trying hard to control this type of crime from one side, and from the other side Gumla Police is trying to make people aware of illconsequences of bad habits like drinking. Last few years have seen rise in murders due to caste group wars.

Sahoo gang was active in Basia Circle in the past. But now, due to strong police action and other reversals, it is in dormant state. In these days, PLFI( erstwhile JLT) has also been engaged in crimes leading to murder of innocents on one pretext or the other. One other gang which has been active is the one of persons with Rautia background. While Basia and Gumla circles are infested mainly by the above three gangs, Gumla and Chainpur circles and Palkot police station are affected by naxals' outfit CPI- Maoists. Gumla being fairly well connected by Kutcha- roads mostly intersecting at right angles , it is always a challenge to check road-borne crimes. But due to strong police action and continuous and regular patrols, this road-borne crime has been kept under control

Gumla police is not only capable of tackling the normal crime, but also the
naxal problem. Gumla district is a geographically diverse district. Being hilly area, it is a natural place for guerrilla warfare. Gumla is primarily affected by CPI Maoists. Being on border of Chattisgarh and Latehar's foothill area, the emphasis of naxal of late has been to strengthen their base in Gumla and control Gumla-Netarhat route.

Police response of Gumla has been good as we have been able to kill four naxals in encounters in Banari and Jamti areas of Bishunpur.Successful LRPs and S.O.Ps the naxal have been kept on back- foot till date by Gumla Police. Gumla police sees people as its partners and not adversaries. Gumla police is concentrating more on addressing the issue of developing and strengthening the relationships with people and building bonds with the community at large. Gumla police strongly believes that involvement of the police efforts to maintain law and order and other crime prevention measures will not only yield better results but will also enhance the image of the police force. Hence Gumla police has kept community policing in its priority list. Since last two and half years we have spent about Rs.15 lacs on certain things to underprivileged persons who struggle in their daily fight to live one another day.

In our 2nd phase of community policing, we concentrated mainly on the kids distributing among them thousands candies, sweets, balls, footballs and cricket gears along with skipping ropes for girls, so that kids in remote area can fulfill their basic joys of life.

In the 3rd phase we are concentrating on women and old ladies in such areas. Good quality sarees were distributed among ladies in all remote and naxal affected areas. As the members of a secular, democratic state, Gumla Police is striving hard continually to rise above personal prejudices and promote harmony and the spirit of common brotherhood amongst all the people transcending religious, linguistic and regional or sectional interests and to renounce practices derogatory to the dignity of women and disadvantaged segments of the society.

We, the Gumla Police are Commited towards providing safe and fear-free environment to the people of Gumla. Since my joining we have arrested many notorious criminals who were threatening the people of Gumla. With your cooperation I am confident that we will bring before law all those who disturb lives of others for their personal gain.I humbly request you all to give me information about all those criminals who are visible to all others but not to the Police either by SMS or a ring to my Mobile number 9431136500. You can also inform my other officers at the numbers given underneath. I request you to Kindly STAND UP to any sort of crime against you or against anybody around you. I as SP of Gumla promise you that Gumla Police will not let you down. I look forward to a fear-free Gumla with your Cooperation.

Gumla as a district is prone to wide-variety of crimes, murder being much-much more prevalent than any other district of Jharkhand. This tendency is partly a result of drinking habits of villagers where most murders take place on flimsy reasons especially on days of village Haats. Other prominent reason of murders is related to witchcraft, whereby people in neighborhood are killed on the suspicion of being a witch responsible for illness/death due to illness of a villager. These social reasons apart, last few years have seen rise in murders due to gang for caste group wars. Sahoo gang was active in Basia Circle in the past which is now dormant after strong police action and other reversals. In these days, PLFI (erstwhile JLT) has also been enganged in crimes leading to murder of innocents on one pretext or the other. One other gang which has been active is the one of persons with Rautia background. While Basia and Gumla Circles are infested mainly by the above three gangs, Gumla and Chainpur Circles and Palkot police station are affected by naxals’ outfit CPI-Maoists. Gumla being fairly well connected by Kutcha-roads mostly intersecting at night angles, it is always a challenge to check Road-borne crimes. The other important but unnoticed crime is that of marital disputes. Naxalism and smaller extortionist outfits have a natural chance to thrive here because of tough geographical locations.
