Khunti Police welcomes all in establishing the district. As the first S.P. of the district, I am proud to put before you the performance of the newly created district, how we are tackling the problems of a district, which is in nascent state, and what is our vision to create a safe and secure society. Khunti police strongly believes in the following words: " We are responsible for what we are, and whatever we wish ourselves to be, we have the power to make ourselves. If what we are now has been the result of our own past actions, it certainly follows that whatever we wish to be in future can be produced by our present actions; so we have to know how to act."

The district of Khunti was carved out of the Ranchi on the 12th of September 2007. It is historically known as the centre of activity of the Birsa movement. Though the district is newly formed and many other institutions are yet to be established, Khunti police is putting it's best efforts in establishing infrastructure as well as regular policing. If you observe the crime scenario of the district, then it is clear that murder is the main concern.

Theft in the district has been under control and there have been no major property offence cases in the district after its creation. The district of Khunti is Naxal affected and two of its police stations viz., Arki and Raniya are most severely affected. Some areas of Khunti and Murhu police station are used by the Naxals for movement. Since Murhu borders Bandgaon (Chaibasa district) and has its extent till Arki on the one side and Raniya on the other, this police station is also vulnerable from this point of view. Arki and Raniya police stations have adequate police force and the fortification of the police station campus is also suited and well equipped for any contingency. The district of Khunti has one Coy of CRPF, which is camped at Raniya.

Apart from the Maoist activities in the district, there are two other groups operating in Khunti. One is the Peoples Liberation Front of India (PLFI) and the other is Jaynath Sahu group. Dinesh Gope is leading PLFI. These two groups also clash among themselves. Levy collection, extortion and kidnapping for ransom are the main agenda of these groups. However, PLFI is now banned outfit in Jharkhand and is in the list of Naxal organization.

Regular operations are being conducted in the district. The police have also reached out to the public in general and regular community policing programs are being conducted in the district. Some psychological operations have also been taken up like making the p eople aware through "nukkad nataks", distribution of pamphlets and distribution of articles like saree, dhoti, blankets, lantern, sports materials and other items.

The police stations in the district are fortified and there are sufficient men at the police stations. Regular stand-to drills are being conducted and mock drills are being conducted in the district to tackle any adverse situations.

Even though it's a newly created district, it is not lagging behind any district on professional fronts.Arrest of Bhaskar ji, one of the members of the Central Military Commission of the CPI (Maoist), encounter of Ravi Pandit, one of the sharp shooters of the PLFI (erstwhile J.L.T.) counts in the success list of Khunti police.

The execution of the lawful duties presupposes public service to the citizens. Police needs the assistance of the public in the prevention, detection, investigation and prosecution, in getting the criminals convicted. The police is therefore expected to create an impression in the
public that the police is their friend and meant to help them in case of need. Khunti police strongly believes that the sense to serve, the need to understand the problems of others, the inherent tendency to remember the job requirements is bound to earn laurels for the individual policemen and officers leading to healthy Police-Public relations. Public relationship is to be built up keeping this in view, more so to remove misconception in the public about the police. In this regard Khunti police took up the community policing programmes on massive scale. Distribution of cloths, sports' kits, lanterns etc, have been done on various occasions.

Khunti police is working mainly to bridge the gap between police and public so that cultivation of sources and collection of information is possible in the newly formed district thereby Khunti police can make the society crime free.

Let me first of all congratulate all of you on the creation of the Khunti district. With the creation of the district certainly there would be more responsibility on each one of us for there would be lots of work, lots of establishment works and more than anything else there would be an added responsibility on each one of us to make this district one of the best in the state of Jharkhand.

As the first S.P. of the district I need your co-operation in all the aspects of policing and at the same time I assure you of full co-operation from our side.

Let us together establish this district and let us try to make the district crime free. My best wishes to all of you.

The average monthly reporting of cases in the district is 35 of which 15 is the average of serious cases. Murder is the main concern of the district. There are two gangs operating in the district, one led by Dinesh Gope and the other led by Jaynath Sahu. Peoples Liberation Front of India (PLFI) is active in the district.

Another major concern is road accident. Theft in the district has been under control and there have been no major property offence cases in the district after the creation of the district.

Bermo sub-division of Bokaro District has been affected by naxal activities. Gomia, Mahuatand, Lalpania, I.EL, B.T.P.S., Tenughat, Petarwar, Nawadih, Chandrapura, Kasmar and Jaridih P.S. and Gandhi Nagar O.P.and Bokaro Jharia O.P.  areas are known naxal affected areas.

The armed rebellion of the naxalites was for the first time reported on 15 November, 1974 at Bhitia Village of Jhumra Pahar. Now a days, the naxal out fit known as CPI Maoist has armed guerillas that have different squads for different works.  The main activities of these armed Maoists are killing those people who differ from their views, ambushing police parties to loot arms and ammunition, spreading extremism to extract levies from government schemes and indulging in extortion from rich people.

In Bokaro Jhumra hills and nearby hillocks are the main centres of Maoist activities.  These areas are used to take refuge and shelter due to geographical reasons. The naxalites organize training camps here and convene meetings. Earlier Jhumra was regarded as the safest zone of the naxalites but after the formation of Jharkhand,   the place has been gained from their control and a CRPF Camp has been established there.  In recent years five running camps have been destroyed and the police have seized huge quantity of arms and explosives.   Jhumra is no more a safe haven for the Maoists, but the activities of the naxlites in the area are reported time and again.

After the creation of the district some of the achievements include the arrest
of  Bhaskarji, one of the members of the central military commission of the C.P.I.(Maoist).

Police encounter of Ravi Pandit, one of the sharp shooters of the P.L.F.I.(erstwhile J.L.T.).

Some of the over-ground supporters of the criminal gangs have been arrested as also one of the arms supplier was arrested in the district.

In the field of community policing there have been matches organised by the police in various areas of the district
