Pakur in its emergence and inception had been a cluster of ponds and orchards surrounded by deep forest and hard rock’s under the range of Rajmahal hills. It had previously been Raj in its new dimension under the British rule. It has also been the center of revolutionary activities, the repercussions of which might been seen in the ‘Santhal hul’ of 1855.
The District of Pakur had been the land of Paharias and Santhals. The santhals are the single largest section of the population. Their biggest concentration is the Damin-i-Koh (Skirts of hills) where they form nearly two third of the population .Besides the Santhal there is another important tribe, Paharias living in this district, on the hill tops. There are the oldest recorded inhabitants of this area.
Economically minerals like coal, china clay, sand are found here. Pakur is famous for stone industry. Approximately 585 mines and 800 crushers are in operation here. The quality of Pakur black stone chips is excellent for construction purpose. Black stone of Pakur is exported to South Asian countries. |

Pakur Police is always there with you for your help, safety and security. Pakur in its emergence and inception had been a cluster of ponds and orchards surrounded by deep forest and hard rocks under the range of Rajmahal hills. Crime profile of Pakur is of general nature. Pakur district is mostly affected by incidents of murder ( due to personal rivalry), burglary and theft. In the recent past a few naxal activities have been noticed in some areas, falling under Amrapara and Pakuria P.S areas. An incident in which dumpers of Panem Coal Mines were set ablaze, has taken place in July last year. This is a signal for all of us to save our beautiful district from the spread of naxal violence. Better co-ordination between police and public can defeat the evil designs of these enemies of peace. The district is communally sensitive too. At Police Station level,Family matters are being disposed by the Mahila Samities formed with active co-operation of police. Through counseling 121 matters disposed of during 2007. The success is attributed to combined team efforts of Pakur police. Our constant effort is to realize the dream of:
