Sahibganj Police's main emphasis is on giving a peaceful and crime free environment for the people of this district. The district of Sahibganj lies approximately between 24*42' North and 25*21' North latitude and between 87*25' and 87*54' East longitude. It is bounded on North by the river Ganges and district of Katihar, on the South by the district Godda, on the east by Maldah and Murshidabad districts of the state of West Bengal, and on the west by Bhagalpur and Godda districts. With a predominantly tribal population, it's a part of Santhal Pargana division and forms the eastern most tip of the division. At present the Sahibganj district contains 2 sub-divisions, 9 blocks and 9 circles.

The major crimes in the district include murder, burglary, theft and highway robbery. During the past one year Sahibganj police has achieved
remarkable success against the criminals. During the period of 1990-95 a naxal group under the leadership of Chimat Ray was in operation and the group was functioning under the chief leadership of Santi Paul in the areas of Mirzachauki PS in the district. The police with the help of local citizens eradicated this problem. Today, the police is trying its best to solve the various social and related problems, so that the left wing extremism is prevented from gaining roots again. For this objective Police is working in close co-operation with the other departments. In remote areas, Village Community has been formed with the help of police to solve the local problems and a regular vigil is being kept so that pro activeness is maintained. Police stations, which are in the remote areas, have been
barricaded with barbered wire and the police personnel have been instructed to keep close watch on the activity of suspected persons.

In the field of community policing during the year 2006-07, Sahibganj Police organized many events in the distant and inaccessible villages of the district. Some essentials were distributed amongst the needy ones, like blankets, mosquito-nets, copies / books / pens etc. During the 2007-08, we have organized medical camps in the rural areas. In these camps medicines are distributed and health check-up done. A feast was organized with the local residents.

During the course of community policing all the police stations of this district have adopted one village each to improve them as " model village"

All these efforts of ours have been very well received by the masses. With these efforts, District Police has won faith of citizens and they have became closer to police. We assure you all that we will continue in our efforts to provide a healthy and peaceful environment for growth in the district.
