Saraikela-Kharswan is one of the youngest districts of Jharkhand. Ever since its inception on 01.04.2001, Saraikela-Kharswan Police is evolving itself into a professionally competent and effective police force.

With the fast industrial development in Adityapur and Chandil regions, Saraikela-Kharswan district plays a vital role in Jharkhand's development. Moreover the strategic location of the district mid-way between the two major cities of Jharkhand: Jamshedpur and Ranchi and also the presence of long stretch of NH-33, the lifeline of Jharkhand, gives Saraikela-Kharswan district added importance. All the above mentioned factors necessitate Saraikela Police to play a distinct but a very important role. Undoubtedly, prevalence of good law and order scenario and the existence of rule of law are preconditions for attracting investments. So no development is possible without effective policing. Saraikela police is proud to be a part of the development of the region and at the same time we realize our responsibilities also. In order to ensure effective policing in urban areas, police control room has been established in Adityapur. Police control room is provided with sufficient vehicles, mobile units and modern gadgets. Efforts are being made to minimize the response time of PCR.

Saraikela police is committed to become a people friendly police force. Police is being made more accessible to the public and all the officers including SP are available round the clock for the service of people. Various awareness programs are also being organized regarding rights of
citizens, traffic rules etc.As far as crime prevention is concerned, we have been able to reduce the number of property offences like dacoity, robbery and burglary. A special team has been created to deal with various criminal gangs operating in urban areas. All the three cases of kidnapping for ransom reported in the last two years were detected. NH-33 being the lifeline of Jharkhand, policing along the highway has been given due importance. Effective patrolling and surveillance have helped to control crime along the highway.We believe that the responsibility of the police doesn't end with crime prevention and detection. Instead we have to ensure conviction for culprits. Keeping this in mind we conduct coordination meeting with the prosecution. Speedy trials have been taken up in important cases.

Apart from urban policing and crime, naxalism is a major concern for Saraikela police. The presence of thick forest in Dalma region and inter-state boundary is posing challenge. With our wholehearted efforts, we have fought back naxals and the situation is under control. Area domination, patrolling and anti-naxal operations are carried out whenever and wherever needed. In co-ordination with neighboring districts in Jharkhand and those in Orissa, joint operations are also conducted. Our efforts have resulted in the arrest of prominent naxalites
namely Banmali Lohar and Somra Hansda

In order to bring people closer to police, community policing measures have been taken up in naxal affected areas. A large number of police - public meetings have been organized in which we distributed blankets,dhotis, sarees etc. to the down-trodden people. Health camps and Bara-Khanas were organized at remote places.

With the active support of local administration, we have facilitated the villagers to have hand pumps, check dams, village pucca roads,wells and ponds. In our attempt to ensure peace, prosperity and tranquility in the region, citizen's co-operation is inevitable. We expect more participation from civil society and general public in our future endeavors so that Saraikela Police could attain greater heights of glory.
