It is the first battalion of the State constituted on the central pattern and known as India Reserve Battalion. It was constituted on 15.01.2005. Six companies have already been recruited. The basic training of our men was organized at J.A.P.T.C, Padma in Hazaribag  district. Subsequently our men got tough training under C.R.P.F and B.S.F attachment. Specified training of jungle warfare was completed under Assam Rifles at Diphu in Assam. Presently all the six companies are deployed in the extremist infested areas of Palamu, Latehar, Chatra and Giridih districts. The achievements of companies in Giridih and Chatra districts is highly appreciable. We are facing so many odds regarding infrastructure but still the morale of our boys is very high.

CO's Message

It is a matter of great pleasure and satisfaction for us that we have competed three years as an independent battalion today i.e on the 15.01.2008. This is a significant date for all of us. Due to some unavoidable reasons we have not become self sufficient so far as our resources and accommodation problems are concerned. Despite of so many odds relating to infrastructure and basic amenities we have achieved a lot on the front of anti extremism and anti narcotics specifically in Giridih andChatra districts. A, C, E, and F coys. have shown appreciable achievements. We expect similar achievements from B and D coy also.

We are quiet hopeful that we will come over these odds in the due course of time under the radical and dynamic leadership of our police chief and we would deliver our best to get the best battalion’s trophy in the year to come.

                                    Thank You.  Jai Hind.”

SECURITY SCENARIO
The battalion has no permanent office which is under construction at Jhilwa some 15 K.Ms away from Jamtara. Presently it is being run in the abandoned quarters of H.C.L at Musabani. No brick wall or barbed wire fencing is available. The battalion headquarters along with the armory is quite insecure. No fund is available for barbed wire or concertina wire fencing which is most essential as the area is extremist effected. Presently the armory (Magazine) is quite insecure. It has no boundary wall or barbed wire or concertina wire fencing. Not a single generator  has been allotted to the battalion and it becomes difficult to run without power during the night. The building requires major immediate repairs as all the rooms, where arms and ammunitions have been stored, are affected with seepage problem.

The battalion is being run in some of the abandoned houses of H.C.L, Musabani and is facing great difficulties on the front of logistics, security and infrastructure. Probably this is a temporary arrangement. The new structures are under construction at Jhilwa under Jamtara district. C.O.’s office, C.O.’s residence, magazine, Dy.S.P.’s and Doctor’s residence, 16 units of L/S quarters have already been constructed. 32 units of L/S quarters, community hall, barracks, M.T Shade, M.T. Hall etc. are under construction. That is why no photograph is being sent because the battalion has been accommodated in the abandoned houses of the H.C.L.
