General Information
Left Wing Extremism has emerged as single biggest threat to our Internal Security in the year 2007-2008. Jharkhand State is a newly created State, which is surrounded by six States which are naxal affected. As a result, Jharkhand has become epicenter of left wing extremism in the north east part of India. 2/3rd of Jharkhand is covered by forests, terrain is undulating, mountainous, intersperse with many rivers and river lets. The altitude varies from 1200 ft. to 4400 ft. at various places. The dense forest cover, and mountainous hilly terrain provides natural hideouts to various naxal dalams operating in the area.
Jharkhand falls under Bihar Jharkhand Special Area Committee of Naxal and the total Jharkhand has been divided into various zones and subzones by naxals. |

Pay/ allowances: |
1.The officers and men posted in Special Task Force will get Special incentives which are as under:
(A)STF Allowance (50% of Basic Pay)
(B)Ration Money (Dysp. to Constable @ 720 Rs./Month)
2.The incentives have been provided to Special Task Force officers and men to motivate them in a befitting manner so that, they can complete the task assigned to them in the coming days to come. |

The Government has decided to provide 150 acres of land in the vicinity of Ranchi to create special infrastructure for posting and training Special Task Force officers and men.

3.Special Task Force's lowest unit which will operate independently against naxal dalams will be an Assault Group which will have the following composition.

4.Each Assault Group will have a dedicated team of Bomb Detection and Disposal Squad and Dog Squad as well to neutralize the deadliest weapon of naxals, i.e. land mines and to sniff them out with the help of dog squad.
5.The Special Task Force will be equipped with special equipment like GPS, Night Vision Device, Bino-culours, Deep Search Metal Detector, Sniper rifles and thermal imager. All officers and men will be fully equipped with B.P. Jackets and helmets.
6.Each Assault Group will have complete mobility in terms of troop carriers, water tankers, motorcycles and Bullet Proof vehicles.
7.Currently Special Task Force in Jharkhand, which has been renamed as Jharkhand Jaguar (J.J.) is in the process of being raised.
8.Officers and men so selected are being trained in Jungle Warfare and in the days to come they will become the main spearhead of Jharkhand Police against the various naxal outfits operating in Jharkhand.
The Jharkhand Jaguar with its motto  will motivate this force to finish the naxal menace from the land of Jharkhand. |
